I hate waiting for grades...even though I turned in (almost) every assignment, I still get this awful feeling in my tummy that screams failure.
Not to mention I've been having this re-occuring dream where I've skipped a class all semester. Despite the fact that most of my work is online doesn't seem to avert the fear that I've missed something.
Only one of my professors is on top of it...Thank you, Dr. Malone for being a stellar professor since my first semester. Because of her, I regained my interest in the practical side of librarianship. She really is amazing. Her assignments were always a challenge, but they improved my search skills immeasurably. Love her...now if only ALL professors could be as amazing as her...

What happens when there's no school? No homework? What do I do?
I finished my final project for 524. It wasn't my best work...far from it. I just wanted it to be finished! Nonetheless...the entire class was great. I feel like I really learned a lot, which is insane considering how much I doubted what a person could learn in an online class. Sure...the professor was absent, but for this class it wasn't really necessary to hold our hands. Becoming a good reference librarian is more or less figuring things out on your own. Because of the three problem sets, I learned A LOT about finding information without using Google or Wikipedia.
In 520 and 515...I learned that even in a face-to-face class the professor can be absent. As a person, Kay seems great, as a professor, she needs to learn to grade papers and not rely on having a graduate assistant to do all the work. Martin needs to learn how to teach a class that IS face-to-face...why offer 515 as f-t-f when attendance isn't mandatory?! While I feel that I learned more about ethical theories than I ever knew (or wanted to know) before...in 515 I learned almost NOTHING that I didn't already know about organizing information. However, I already know my grade for 515 (an A), so I can't complain too much.

Due to everything that's been going on, I'm a bit behind on my school work. Just two assignments left to go. One is due tonight...I have a rough draft, just need to polish it up before 6:30. The other, a pathfinder on intellectual property, is due tomorrow. Last Thursday, I emailed both professors asking for a few extra days. One professor got back to me, haven't heard a word from the other. It's really frustrating. I even said in the email that even if an extension wasn't possible, to at least let me know that the email was received. This is the same class that I didn't get my midterm grade until last week...and I still only have 6 points for all of those weekly assignments we had to do. UGH! I don't even care about my grade in that class anymore...I just better get a B or better simply because I never had a way to know how I was doing because she never graded my stinkin' work!
On to something more distracting and less devasting.
I just got an email from a classmate about my presentation on Tuesday (the Ethics project). First let me say that I get terribly nervous whenever I have to speak in front of a group in a formal fashion. I'm fine when it comes to just speaking up, but if it's a PRESENTATION, I have a hard time breathing and I can't make eye contact. But on Tuesday, I suffered through. I got my professor's comments back today and they were good! However, it's even better to get a positive peer evaluation. It was totally unexpected!
So I worked pretty hard on my presentation, so it's good to get feedback that supports my hardwork. On the flipside, I had a resource evaluation in my reference class that I did not work hard on and I got full credit for it. This is something that people were asking if it should be 15 pages long and mine was just over 2.5 pages. Apparently, my 2.5 pages was enough. When I wrote it, I felt like what I wrote was enough to accurately describe the material I evaluated...and in a professional setting, no one is going to have enough time to read and truly give a COMPLETE evaluation of a reference book...but I know I didn't do my best work. And to be rewarded for not doing my best makes me feel really cruddy. However, I'm currently on my way to getting a perfect 'A' in this class.
In my Organization class...I already have my final grade. I spent 30 minutes on the final assignment and got the most points on it than any of the others. Now I just have to attend class on Tuesday to make sure he doesn't drop any participation points (I may have skipped class the past couple of weeks...it's just so pointless to go!).

there's an extra credit opportunity for my ethics class today...i had every intention to get up early and go this morning. i still intend to go this afternoon. i have to be there by 1:40...i don't know that i'm going to make it. as much as i need and want the extra credit...i just can't bring myself to go. i think it would be interesting, but it's my birthday weekend. i still have to go to campus tomorrow to do my 524 resource eval...someone in class thinks it should be 5-7 pages...i thought 2-3. hmm...still no answer from the professor on that one, but i might have a grade for my 2nd problem set soon! in 515, the assignment due tomorrow was pushed back one more week! yay! so if i can finish the immediate assignments for 515 and 524 this week, then i'm free to focus on my 520 project and have the paper and presentation completely finished by april 21st. i doubt that will happen, because i'm a horrible procrastinator...and i can be a bit of a flake.
Grades in a timely manner please...
What do professors do all day? The one professor that I thought would stink at getting grades back in a timely fashion is the only one that gets grades back to students within two weeks. I realize that Spring Break was in the middle, but I turned my midterm assignments and tests in the week before break and I still don't have grades for 2 of 3 assignments. For one class, I still don't have grades for assignments turned in from the beginning of the course! As a professor, one would think that they wouldn't assign so much stinkin' work if they can't even get to grading the assignments! How am I supposed to know how I'm doing in the class?! I don't even know if I'm passing my ethics class! In my reference class, I have another problem set due on Wednesday and the second set isn't even graded yet! AND I have ANOTHER assignment due 7 days after the third problem set! Seriously?!
The next couple of weeks are going to be brutal...I'm already exhausted from this past weekend of constantly going and it isn't going to stop any time soon. I realized that I'm working 36+ hours a week and going to school FT for the next couple of weeks...plus Easter...plus all of the assignments due because it's the end of the semester...plus I'm just tired...and overwhelmed...and I just want to have some fun...and I don't want to have a birthday. I wish everyone would forget it (but let's be honest, I'd be pretty hurt if no one remembered). I just wish I could postpone it so that I could enjoy it.
There's a scene in I Love You, Man where Paul Rudd just screams...I wish I could stand under a boardwalk and just scream right now.
Enough of a break...back to work!

Gone rogue
Rogue Archivist Campaigns to Be Obama's Printer
I'm a fan of the Rogue Archivist...as a fan of the free resources offered by libraries and from open source applications I fully support Carl Malamud and his efforts to make government documents accessible by anyone with a computer (at home, at work, at school, or at their local library). Can you believe that a state would copyright their statutues?! I couldn't. If Jane Austen can be in the public domain...then state laws should be in the public domain. Maybe someone will spice 'em up with some zombie action. (By the way...I can't wait to read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, I just read the Entertainment Weekly article from Feb 21 and now I can't wait for April 1 to get here!)
Carl Malamud's website: Public.Resource.Org. It truly is an incredible resource for everyone!
On a more personal level...rogue anything makes me think of Wesley from Angel when he shows up as a Rogue Demon Hunter...and Faith as the Rogue Slayer.
And...March is already overwhelming and it's not even here yet.
March 3rd: 515...another randomly assigned group presentation
520...3 articles to read...and 3 PREs to write about those articles
March 5th: 520...midterm will be posted
March 8th: 515...indexing assigment due by 11:00pm
520...midterm due by 5:00pm
March 11th: 524...problem set #2 due
AND...I have to decide on what my presentation/paper is going to be on for 520 and write a proposal for that...I think the proposal is due before March 15th. Not to mention...I have to decide on a topic for my Pathfinder assignment in 524 and email the professor about that by March 15th...the professor that is MIA. A student actually posted a comment in the discussion forum on our class site about how 524 is the most inactive class she's ever been in.

I won books!
I never win anything, so I'm really excited that I won books from Living Read Girl! I love books.
...o today...longest day ever. I woke up at 6:30 am. I watched the kids from 8:00-12:00. I went to Starbucks to get my schedule for next week and to pick up tips. I went to my new job at the library from 1:00-3:00. I had class from 3:30-6:00. Then some more class from 6:30-9:00. Then I came home and finished my taxes. Now I'm really stressed out and just want a cigarette (I quit smoking a few years ago, but being in school brings it all back).
My classes were awesome though! My Organization of Info class is kind of boring. The professor doesn't know how to fill 2.5 hours of class time...part of the problem with all these online classes my program offers...the professors get lazy. The last hour I just played around in Google. I like looking at what's in current development...like Google Trends and Google Sets (which reminds me a lot of Music Map). I recommend checking out what Google has to offer...there's a reason everyone goes to them first. While looking at Music Map though, I also found out that there are other AI experiments from the same folks. It's called The Global Network of Dreams.
My Ethics class is the total opposite of Organization. I feel like we don't have enough time to talk about everything! Today we started delving into the different ethical theories...Utilitarianism, Kant...and that's as far as we got today and class is canceled next week! Now I just have to find out how to utilize iTunes U without having to download iTunes so that I can get to the podcasts from her previous lectures on ethical theories. My assignment for next week is to apply the different theories to an ethical dilemma that I formulated for this weeks assignment. It actually sounds like a fun assignment!
My other class...the online class...ugh. It took the professor a week to respond to an email I sent and she didn't even answer the question. Irritating.
Time for bed...
